Tiki & Tropical Finery: Flowing muumuus and tasteful Hawaiian shirts encouraged. Island sundresses, caftans, shorts and sandals are all perfect for the relaxed, tropical safari vibe of our rehearsal dinner.

  • Cocktail Hour

Start the evening off right. Step into a sunken woodland garden for our cocktail hour that will occur before our wedding ceremony. Mingle with family and friends from near and far. Sip cocktails and nibble hors d’oeuvres while the world-famous Disneyland Monorail passes overhead. Strut your stuff on the step and repeat for our professional wedding photographer who will take your souvenir photo before the evening gets into full swing.

Please note at the conclusion of the cocktail hour, Disney guides will escort all of the guests as a group on a 15 minute walk thru the Downtown Disney District to the Disneyland Hotel where the wedding ceremony will be held. Please try to balance fashion and comfort with your footwear for this stroll.

  • Ceremony

It took us nearly 12 years (and a Supreme Court ruling) to get here, but it’s finally time for us to tie the knot. You will be escorted from our cocktail hour to our wedding ceremony location.

We kindly ask that you respect our “unplugged ceremony”request and turn off and put away all mobile phones, tablets and cameras. We hired a dream team of professional photographers and cinematographers to capture every moment of our ceremony. We will be happy to share their images with you after the wedding. Be present and enjoy the ceremony along with us!

Please note at the conclusion of the ceremony, Disney guides will escort all of the guests as a group on a 15 minute walk thru the Downtown Disney District to the Grand Californian Hotel where the adult reception will be held. Please try to balance fashion and comfort with your footwear for this stroll.

  • Adult Reception

No need to front, this is the epic party we all have been waiting for. Enjoy cocktails and a multi-course sit-down dinner. Then we will get the dance party started. We will party like it’s New Year’s Eve since everyone will be in tuxedoes and evening gowns and we won’t have the last dance until 2:00 AM. Of course there will be a wedding cake for us to cut along the way.

    Childcare

Our Adult Reception will run from 9:45 PM until the wee hours of the morning at 2:00 AM. We decided that it would be best for this one wedding event to be for adults only. We are going to party like it’s New Year’s Eve in our tuxedoes and evening gowns with a multi-course sit-down dinner and flowing potent potables to be followed by a dance party with a top wedding DJ.

Before the Adult Reception starts, secure the kiddos with a sitter and get ready to enjoy the party!

Friday, October 6: Rehearsal dinner at Rainforest Cafe in the Downtown Disney District

Aloha! Mystery, romance and adventure await you as we embark on a tiki-themed safari at the Rainforest Cafe in the Downtown Disney District! Don a lei and join our party of intrepid tropical explorers. We will journey deep into the Amazon where we will dine from a buffet in the company of singing birds, trumpeting elephants and schools of brightly colored fish. Welcome to our tiki jungle!

Attire: Tiki & Tropical Finery
Flowing muumuus and tasteful Hawaiian shirts encouraged. Island sundresses, caftans, shorts and sandals are all perfect for the relaxed, tropical safari vibe of our rehearsal dinner.

Now that the summer fashion season is upon us, it is a great time to shop for tropical attire. If you’re concerned that an outfit you are considering might be too bright and colorful, don’t despair because it will be just right for our tropical safari rehearsal dinner.

Saturday, October 7: Wedding Day
It took us nearly 12 years (and a Supreme Court ruling) to get here, but it’s finally time for us to tie the knot. Afterwards, we will party like it’s New Year’s Eve since everyone will be in tuxedoes and evening gowns.

Attire: Black Tie
Tuxedos and evening gowns. Dress to impress and rock your red carpet style.

Ladies: Please note that both before and after our wedding ceremony at the Disneyland Hotel there will be a 15 minute walk from and back to the Grand Californian Hotel where the cocktail hour and adult reception will be held. (We are starting the evening off right by sipping cocktails and nibbling hors d’oeuvres before our wedding ceremony.) Depending upon your footwear choice to coordinate with your evening gown, you may want to bring a spare pair of comfortable shoes for the walk.

If you don’t want to purchase an evening gown specifically for our wedding, another option is to rent one. Corinne Mescher told us about Rent the Runway and she used their service to rent a fabulous gown that she wore to the Emmy Awards last year. Use this link to check it out:

Gentlemen: If you don’t own a tuxedo, we have a wedding guest tuxedo rental group that you may join at the Men’s Wearhouse to receive a discount on your tuxedo rental. Notify us via email (wedding@adamandted.com) if you would like to join our wedding guest tuxedo rental group. If you join our group, you will need to visit a Men’s Wearhouse before September 1 to be measured and pay for your rental. Your tuxedo will be sent to the Men’s Wearhouse that is closest to Disneyland in Anaheim. We will provide the address to you so that you can go there to try on and pick up your tuxedo. We will also coordinate one person to gather and return all of the tuxedos to the Men’s Wearhouse on Sunday after the wedding.

Sunday, Oct 8: Ted and Adam in Disneyland to hang out with any guests who wish to join us in the afternoon and evening
Attire: Casual. This will be the last official day of Gay Days, so a red shirt is always a nice way to show LGBT support and solidarity

From the Gay Days Anaheim website: Why do we wear red shirts?
We take after our sister event in Orlando, which also uses the red as the color of choice. Red stands out in the crowd. Because the park is open to everyone, it’s easiest to identify one another if we’re all wearing the same color. And while we don’t consider the event political in any way, a sea of red shirts does make a lasting impression on all who see it.

Disneyland Resort

The Disneyland Resort is one of our favorite places. Join us at the Happiest Place on Earth as we celebrate our wedding with family and friends from near and far.

The Disneyland Resort features two theme parks, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

Disneyland (DL) opened on July 17, 1955 and it is the only theme park designed and built under the direct supervision of Walt Disney. Disneyland Park consists of 8 themed lands: 1. Main Street, U.S.A.; 2. Adventureland; 3. Frontierland; 4. Fantasyland; 5. Tomorrowland; 6. New Orleans Square; 7. Critter Country and 8. Mickey’s Toontown.

Disney California Adventure (DCA) opened in 2001 and features 7 themed districts: 1. Buena Vista Street, 2. Paradise Pier, 3. Grizzly Peak, 4. Pacific Wharf, 5. Hollywood Land, 6. A Bug’s Land and 7. Cars Land.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Disneyland / Frontierland
FASTPASS Offered / Height Requirement: 40" or Taller

The Wildest Ride in the Wilderness
Streak through a legendary gold-mining town aboard a rollicking runaway mine train (rollercoaster).

Hang Onto Your Hats
Hurl forward into the darkness of a tunnel as the train’s wheels chug back and forth across a winding track. Swoop around sharp turns and dip and drop into canyons and caves, darting through the ghost town of Big Thunder.

This attraction is great in the day but we enjoy it even more at night. Ask to sit in the back row of the last car for the most exhilerating ride.

EXPLORE DISNEYLAND

Haunted Mansion Holiday

Disneyland / New Orleans Square
FASTPASS Offered / Any Height

Decked Out for the Horror-Days
See the world famous Haunted Mansion at its eeriest with tons of frightfully festive touches—courtesy of Jack Skellington.

The all-time classic Haunted Mansion attraction has been transformed—with jack o’ lanterns and wreaths, terrifying toys and kooky characters from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Experience all your favorite frights plus scary seasonal surprises—ginger-dread houses, blood-curdling pies and more—courtesy of Jack himself. Sally, Oogie Boogie and other Nightmare nasties will be there to wish you “Season’s Screamings!”

Pay attention as your “doom buggy” exits the attic and you will catch a glimpse of the Hatbox Ghost, one of the most illusive Haunted Mansion residents.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean is celebrating its 50th anniversary at Disneyland in 2017!

If Ye Be Seekin’ Adventure…

Behold boisterous buccaneers drunk on the spoils of plunderin’ during your approximate 15-minute cruise amid the New World. Sing along as windswept pirates serenade you with their classic anthem, “Yo Ho, Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me).” Spy a sly Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean film series along the way, as he secretly attempts to get his hands on the town’s treasures.

EXPLORE DISNEYLAND

Enchanted Tiki Room

Disneyland / Adventureland
Any Height

Tropical birds, tiki gods and colorful flowers come to life in a swinging 15-minute South Seas musical celebration.

Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room debuted in 1963 as the very first Audio-Animatronics show. Walt Disney’s fascination with translating his love of film animation into the real world led to the groundbreaking new technology, which enabled the synchronization of movement, audio and visual effects of a multitude of animated figures at one time. This technology helped pave the way for other classic attractions, including “it’s a small world,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and the “Haunted Mansion.”

An Enchanted Garden
The magic begins before you even enter the Enchanted Tiki Room. As you wait for the doors to open, carved totem poles representing the island gods suddenly spring to life and introduce themselves.

You can also take the opportunity to purchase a treat from the Tiki Juice Bar. Taste a Pineapple Dole Whip—a classic treat we enjoy on every visit. Learn more about this famous and tasty treat in our SNACK section.

EXPLORE DISNEYLAND

Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy

Disneyland / Tomorrowland
FASTPASS Offered / Height Requirement: 40" or Taller

During Halloween Time 2017, brave the haunted cosmos aboard a speeding rocket to the darkest reaches of outer space.

Flight of Fright
As the universe’s newest explorer, you’ve been recruited to investigate a creepy cosmic phenomenon within the darkest regions of Space Mountain. But when your starship becomes mysteriously possessed by something sinister, your voyage takes an unexpected detour into a shadowy realm—an uncharted galaxy where haunted star clusters, supernatural supernovas and spine-tingling phenomena threaten you at every turn.

Space Mountain opened in 1977 and the space-themed indoor steel roller coaster became an instant Disneyland classic. The structure of the attraction is an icon. Placing the structural beams on the outside of the building was pretty forward-thinking in the mid 70’s. The Imagineers wanted the beams on the outside to allow a smooth ceiling inside for the stars and planets to be projected upon.

Space Mountain is INCREDIBLY popular. Get your Space Mountain FASTPASS as soon as you enter Disneyland for the day because your return time may be many hours later. On busy days FASTPASS for this attraction will run out for the entire day by early afternoon.

EXPLORE DISNEYLAND

Indiana Jones™ Adventure

Disneyland / Adventureland
FASTPASS Offered / Height Requirement: 46" or Taller

Beware the eyes of Mara!
Venture deep inside the cursed Temple of the Forbidden Eye aboard a rugged troop transport and embark on a fast-paced thrill ride to find Indiana Jones. Study carvings and frescos that tell the story of Mara—a powerful ancient deity who promised great treasures to the pure of heart and death to those foolish enough to gaze into its all-seeing eyes.

Take a cliff-hanging journey through the chilling dangers of the Temple of the Forbidden Eye. With Indy’s help, escape the supernatural pull of the Gates of Doom—beyond which lies eternal torment. Careen along precarious precipices that plummet into molten lava in the Cavern of Bubbling Death, avoid the screaming undead mummies of the temple’s past victims and swerve to avoid lava eruptions, swarms of insects and evil wraiths.

As you narrowly escape a collapsing bridge to find yourself face-to-fang with a giant venomous snake, you’ll wish that you never dared to test the Temple of the Forbidden Eye. Just when you think you’ve made it through safely, a massive boulder rolls straight in your direction and only one man is brave enough—or crazy enough—to save you…Indiana Jones!

Indiana Jones Adventure is neither a roller coaster nor a typical slow-speed attraction like the Haunted Mansion. You’ll board a 12-person troop transport for a fast-paced thrill ride that realistically simulates driving fast over rough terrain. The experience is truly unique—and truly exciting.

Ask to sit in the back row of your troop transport for a more thrilling ride.

The one not so thrilling thing about Indiana Jones Adventure is that the attraction is prone to breaking down. The attraction breaks down almost every time we visit Disneyland. The attraction usually comes back up within an hour. It is worth checking back later in the day to see if the attraction has re-opened.

Accommodations

We negotiated with Disney to leverage an existing convention rate (Gay Days) for rooms at all three Disneyland Resort hotels to give you a range of options. Gay Days rates are the lowest available during the timeframe of our wedding at all three Disneyland Resort hotels. Please use the promo link under each hotel below to book your room as soon as possible. Available rates will be more than double the Gay Days rate if you wait to book until the weeks before our wedding when the Gay Days room block will be sold out. The time to book is now!

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa
$254 per night plus 17% taxes & fees (total $297.18 per night)
Rate available Sunday, October 1 – Wednesday, October 11
https://aws.passkey.com/go/gcgj17a
Consider Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa if you want the convenience of elegantly stumbling a short distance to your room from our adult reception. The Grand Californian may be a better choice if your children are staying with a sitter the night of the adult reception and you want to pop up to your room and check in on them during the festivities.

Disneyland Hotel
$204.00 per night plus 17% taxes & fees (total $238.68 per night)
Rate available Wednesday, October 4 – Monday, October 9
https://aws.passkey.com/go/gcgj17a
You may want to stay at the Disneyland Hotel to be near our ceremony.

Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel
$194.00 per night plus 17% taxes & fees (total $226.98 per night)
https://aws.passkey.com/go/gcgj17a
Rate available Wednesday, October 4 – Monday, October 9

Book your room as soon as possible because the Gay Days rates will sell out and be unavailable closer to the wedding. Booking early gives you the flexibility of reserving a longer reservation than you may need and shortening it once your travel plans firm up. It will be easy to shorten your reservation but it will not be possible to extend your stay at these deeply discounted rates once the Gay Days room block is full. Remember to book early.

While we recommend you take advantage of these lower rates at the Disney properties, we have an alternate hotel that is available a short distance away. Due to challenges with transport (parking/Uber/cabs/bus) between the alternate hotel and the wedding events, we haven’t listed it here. If you would like to explore this option, please contact us at wedding@adamandted.com.

Wedding Party

Proposal

Adam & Ted

Ted wanted the proposal to be a complete surprise. Adam and Ted were going to be at Disneyland for their 2015 pre-Christmas visit. One of the couple’s favorite restaurants at the Disneyland Resort is Carthay Circle. Ted booked a table for dinner (coincidentally on the 10th anniversary of their first date) because that wouldn’t raise any suspicions.

Ted coordinated with Ashley, a friend who was also a server at the restaurant. It was a dark and stormy night. Torrential rains cancelled both the fireworks and night parade. The couple arrived a bit late for their reservation because Adam was taking a really long time to get ready for dinner at the hotel and Ted couldn’t tell him to hurry up without spoiling the surprise.

The meal progressed as normal. When it was time for dessert, Adam’s plate said “Happy 10th Anniversary” and Ted’s said “Will You Marry Me?” Ted turned his plate around so Adam could read it while Ted said, “My plate says something different than yours.”

The small side room at the restaurant where the couple was seated was packed with a party of 10 and another of 16 and both groups were very loud. Ted basically screamed his proposal while their friend Jaymie snapped a few pictures after hiding on the freezing balcony in the rain waiting for dessert to be served.

Ted knew Adam wouldn’t want an engagement ring, so he went with a Disney trading pin instead. Thankfully Adam said “Yes!”
